Thanks for all the birthday and new year's wishes! :) I hope everyone had a great new year. Mine was good. Lots of flying (an hour of it in a tiny little 8 passenger propeller plane that kept getting battered by wind -- fun) and then out to dinner and hanging out at home with my DH where he brought me cheesecake with a giant scented candle to blow out. So good to be home. We barely stayed awake for midnight. We finally decided to get ready for bed and meet there to count down the new year. We stared at my phone as it changed time, kissed and then promptly went to sleep. Pitiful, huh?
Anyway, no last minute, last cycle before I was due, birthday present miracle for me. It sucks, definitely. (And, it would be great if the ibuprofen would kick in at some point...) But, if AF had to show, at least it was with good timing. Everything is set for me to have the lap tomorrow. We don't start back to class until Monday, so this is really good. I'm working on some class preparations, now, and will miss a work meeting tomorrow but nothing is scheduled after that until Saturday.
I'm nervous about the surgery but more sort of in denial about it. I guess it's because I have no idea what to expect. I know that they're going to take out the fibroid but I don't know what else they'll find. I think there's probably at least an 80% chance that they'll find nothing else at all. But, I think either way it will be good for my peace of mind -- either they find something that helps explain what's going on or they find nothing wrong and I will just feel better knowing.
I've been on a fun bowel cleanse since last night. The nurse says they want to be prepared in case they can't do what they need to laparascopically. Believe me, my bowels are definitely cleansing themselves out. Magnesium citrate is an interesting substance, let me tell you. Yikes. When I first read the directions that said only clear liquids today I thought "won't I be starving?" Turns out that the last thing I could possibly want to do today is eat something solid!! Did I mention "fun?"
On a totally unrelated but quite exciting note -- we got a call from our contractor last night that he'll be ready to start renovations on our kitchen on Monday! We're so excited and are getting started on packing everything up. He had said possibly mid-January but I'd been steeling myself for mid-February as a start date "just in case." Hopefully, it will just be 3 or 4 weeks and we'll have a brand new kitchen! I'm picturing two or three week or longer delays just to keep myself from being too disappointed if it doesn't go smoothly.
It appears that IF "protectiveness" has seeped into all the rest of my life!
I'll post when I can after the surgery. I tend to be REALLY out of it after anesthesia, so it might be a day or two...
Send me lots of positive thoughts! Oh, and if you have advice for recovering from a lap, send me that, too.
As gross as it is, be lucky you got the bowel cleanse. I didn't, and I was already stopped up before the surgery because of nerves. The pain by day 4 of not using the bathroom was excruciating. So I am glad that they did that for you. I promise it's more fun than being constipated with stitches.
ReplyDeleteI'm also glad you aren't going back to work until Monday. It took me almost a full week to feel normal again, so take this time to rest. Stock up on GasX and Colace now, and start taking it as soon as possible after the surgery. The gas pains hurt, but the GasX helps - as does Ginger Ale. I hope you have some loose fitting PJ pants to wear around, too!
Most importantly, get up and move around when you can. Don't overdo it, but the more you move around, the sooner you'll feel better. The worst parts for me were the constipation and gas in my chest. The incisions were sore, but not terrible.
You can do this, girl!!! I'm thinking of you, and if you have any questions, please e-mail me at fromiftowhen at gmail.com. :)
xoxo
Oh my god! I can't believe I missed your birthday post, how the hell did that happen? I am so sorry, happy birthday, welcome to the 36 club.
ReplyDeleteYour NYE sounds sweet, being with your hubs is what matters most, right? The holiday is so overhyed anyway.
Good luck tomorrow, I know you will be fine. I can totally understand the fear of surgery since I whethered two last year. And yes, like Kate said be happy (if that is possible) that you are doing the bowel prep. The gas was THEE most painful part of my recovery. Otherwise I was up and back to work in 3 days. I also second the movement!!!
I will be thinking of you and sending you love and easy peasy surgery vibes!!
good luck with your surgery! I had a similar one about 3 weeks ago to remove a septum. I know everything will go smoothly, and wish you a (relatively) painfree recovery! Oh, and happy birthday too :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had a nice birthday! Your NYE doesn't sound pitiful at all (or maybe that's my mutual lameness talkin').
ReplyDeleteGood luck at your lap tomorrow, babe. I'd be scared, too, but everything I've heard from others indicates you'll be fine. Baby yourself and make the man baby you, too. You deserve it.
Sorry AF is back in town. Happy you had a nice birthday and NYE though. Sometimes the best celebrating is sleep =) Best of luck on your LAP!!! Let your DH spoil you afterwards.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! I'm glad you were able to spend NYE with the man you love in your own bed. Sounds perfect to me :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck tomorrow. I'll be thinking of you.
Sending you positive thoughts! I had a lap done and recovery took longer than expected, and it's relatively painful too, but all in all, not bad and you'll be up and running in no time! Good luck!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteGood Luck with the Lap. I have also had one, and the anistetic knocked me around too. Just lie on the couch and enjoy being sleepy. I would reccommend not taking TRAMAL, if they give you these for pain, they can make you feel a bit loopy. I managed on just paracetomol every 4hrs. Let us know when you can what the results were.
ReplyDeleteBest Wishes for a smooth surgery and quick recovery. Happy Belated Birthday wishes, too.
ReplyDeleteGood luck tomorrow!! I'm happy you are making forward progress (although sorry about the lack of a right-under-the-wire BFP for 2010)... And happy birthday and happy new year!! May this year be full of nothing but positives -- you are well overdue!
ReplyDeleteThe lap I had was no big deal EXCEPT the fact that I was so chuck full of air it was painful for about 3 days. That said, it wasn't anything unbearable. Its just really uncomfortable. Good luck and I hope all goes well.
ReplyDeleteI love the sound of your new years. Perfection.
I'm having my lap surgery in about two weeks and I'm a bit nervous too. But, I know everything will work out great for you. Keep us posted!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes! I'll be thinking of you :)
ReplyDeleteI had a lap done in late September after an HSG was performed where they thought my left tube was blocked. I thought I would bounce back from surgery in a day or two... yeah, not so much. My surgery was on a Thursday morning, and I spent the next 4 days on the couch. Not in pain, just a little sore and out of it. I took advantage of the pain killers for a couple days, then switched to Advil. My advice... plan to do NOTHING for 3-4 days. I went back to work on Monday, and probably should have taken the day off. I was pretty much better by Tuesday, and after one week had passed, I was completely fine.
My only advice is to be sure to take a stool softener after surgery. My doc didn't give me one and I didn't go get one on my own. It can take a few days for your bowels to wake up from the anesthesia, so trust me, you want to have the stool softener in your system. :-)
ReplyDeleteGood luck! I'm sure you'll pull through with flying colors! :-)
When I had my lap last year, I actually recovered a lot better than I thought I would. One thing that really helped was to get moving again as soon as possible. It helps with the gas pains which, for me, were mostly in my shoulders. Don't be afraid to use the pain pills for the first couple days, but I second the vote for stool softeners--the pain meds are quite constipating! Lots and lots of fluids, too!
ReplyDeleteWishing you lots of luck for your surgery and a speedy recovery!
Hope this lap goes very well, and you recover quickly!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the image of you two counting down to midnight in bed, kissing, and going to sleep - so sweet.
Your NYE sounds a lot like mine. : ) Wishing you a speedy and painless recovery from the lap!!
ReplyDeleteI feel like such a crappy friend! Happy (belated) birthday sweetheart!! I've been kind of out of it lately - the whole Dakota debacle (wrote about on Monday) really threw me off course, plus not having a computer at home leaves me missing a lot when I'm not in the office Friday-Sunday w/ the holiday.
ReplyDeleteTim has UC and he has to do a colonoscopy every 2 years so I know the struggles with the colon flush. But strangely enough after he has it done he is really hungry. We went out for steak & egss once afterwards. LOL
I'll be thiking about you for the surgery, and hope all goes VERY well. xo
Sending you loads of positive vibes! Can't wait to hear how it goes!!
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday and happy new year!
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with the lap - I hope it goes smoothly! Hope you recover quickly!
Hope the lap went well! Actually, the most painful thing for me was my throat from the airway that they used during the surgery! I didn't really get the gassy/bloatedness in my shoulders they way they said I might. I recovered pretty quickly. Hope you do too!
ReplyDeletei hope everything goes smoothly for your lap -- i am thinking of you.
ReplyDeleteand as a side note -- how exciting about your kitchen!!! i love renovations! okay, maybe not so much the *actual* process...but the end product is totally worth it! can't wait to hear how all that goes.
