Sunday it is!

As of today we've got:

3 8-cell Grade 1
1 8-cell Grade 2
1 3-cell (that looks like it is probably arresting)

(My clinic does a 1, 2, 3 grading system where 1 is the highest.)

So, because there are four to choose from, they want to see what goes to blast by Day 5 so they can pick the best one(s)!

Transfer is set for noon on Sunday!

I'm excited and nervous.  Part of me wants to have hold of them right now but I'm very excited to hopefully choose the best ones on Day 5.  And, hope that anything else might be able to freeze.

I'm planning on camping out on the sofa from Sunday until Tuesday at noon.  I figure I'd rather do 48 hours bed rest than not do it and always wonder if it would have helped.  I'm going to pre-record a lecture Saturday for my Monday class and I have no labs next week because we have fall break on Thursday and Friday.  So, my only other responsibility next week is a lecture Wednesday morning.  I'm going to be as relaxed the week post-transfer as is humanly possible!

Anybody have any transfer day tips?

  1. Sounds very promising!!! Bedrest is great & also eating pineapple core. You can make smoothies with it if you want. Pineapple core contains Bromelin, which supposedly aids in implantation.

I'm so excited!!!!!! :) Will be thinking of you on Sunday!

  2. Drink lots of water! i had to have my bladder filled with a catheter b/c I followed the nurse's advice and only started drinking an hour before. Not pleasant! I'd give yourself more liquid than you think you need - it's hard to gauge how full it is after all the puffiness in there from the retrieval.

Good luck! I also wouldn't go full bed rest, but, I'm a rebel that way. There's no evidence that it has any effect either way. You'll feel better if you go for a walk, get some fresh air.

  3. No advice but I'm so excited for you! I'm headed to Missouri tomorrow so my positive thoughts will not have to travel so far to you on Sunday! :)

  4. That's amazing!!!! I know what you mean about wanting them inside you as soon as possible (that sounds dirty lol) but now you'll get the best of the best on Sunday :)

I was on bedrest from Thursday till Saturday too. It felt good to just focus on the babies and take care of myself.

Hmmm...transfer tips. If you listen to C+B I recommend bringing it with you and listening to it before and after the transfer. If you don't have it let me know and I can email it to you. Make sure you have lots of magazines/books to read to keep you busy!

I'll be away most of the weekend, but I'll be thinking of you and checking my phone for an update. Good luck Rebecca!!!

  5. I likes the sounds of those embies! And a 5 day is always best- you learn the most that way. Most clinics wouldn't go for it if they didn't feel good about the embies you have left...

  6. Yay for a 5-day transfer and being PUPO on Sunday! I am so so so excited! I think I would probably do a few days of bed rest if I were you too. I guess just do whatever feels right but RELAX and to not think about class, labs, or grading!

  9. It's wonderful that you have so many grade 1 & 2 embies growing!!! Something my RE told me was that the sperm don't contribute to cell division until day 3. So if the embies are put back on day 3 you could have an unknown sperm issue. Keeping them in a dish until day 5 allows them to pick the best of the best after both the egg and sperm are contributing to growth. Your plan for some bed rest sounds like a good one. It would suck to what-if yourself later. Stock up on happy movies, books, etc. and enjoy the down time. You've been so busy I'm sure it won't be tough to nap & relax =)

  10. Forgot about transfer day tips...it goes amazingly fast and will be over before you know it. Just remember to take deep breaths and try and stay as zen as possible. I cut up a fresh pineapple before ET and used a food processor to grind up the core. Each day after ET for 5 days I ate 1-2 Tbs of core in yogurt and also a little of the fresh fruit. I also ate a couple brazil nuts each day. Both pineapple (particularly the core) and brazil nuts are said to aid in implantation. I'm sure it just made me feel like I was doing something =)

  12. Wonderful news! So excited for your transfer on Sunday! Eat a whole pineapple over three days, including the core. It wasn't that bad. But just enjoy the down time. I was the same as you - I would wonder if I didn't do it, so may as well! Good luck!

  14. Yay! for a 5-day transfer!!!:) I am glad you may have couple days off for just for you and the Embabies! On ET, I was religously laying flat, flat, flat (no pillows, no raising the bed) for 50 minutes - my goal was at least 45 min, and bedrest for about 48 hours. Just keep having beautiful thoughts for those Babies! Will keep my fingers crossed for beautiful blastocysts by Sunday:)

  18. Great news! Try to resist the urge to get a hold of them, and let them stay in the lab where they're safe and happy :)

  19. Wonderful news :)) There's evidently research to show that humour and laughter help following transfer... so I'm planning to hire a few good funny movies following my next transfer :)) Sending you lots of happy vibes xoxo

  20. Sounds great! And I say just relax, put your feet up, relax, and rub your belly a lot!

  21. Agreed about the laughing; my husband brought funny stuff on an iPad and we watched it together in recovery. Also--and this was news to me when I read it--even though it's tempting (or was to me) to think that the more cells an embryo has on Day 3, the better, 8 is apparently ideal. And your cup runneth over with 8-cell embies! So that's awesome. Best of everything!

  23. Ahh wonderful to read. My advice is to keep breathing if it gives you cramps during transfer. My first time was very uncomfortable. But deep breaths.
I had forgotten about the pineapple trick, it may or may not help. I just got my husband to buy one for me =) he's out food-shopping anyway so.. I put it in the blender for a nice juice with other stuff I like. Other than that, I don't think a little walk to get some fresh air is bad as someone else wrote.
    Exciting times now!
